Rob Bresser’s Drink of the Month – June 2008

This month is a drink truly suited for royalty. And as such takes quite a bit of time to prepare. I suggest having your servants prepare this one for you. If you don’t have any, get one. What do you mean you can’t afford to hire a servant? Then get a monkey and train him. Oh, right, valid point. The whole feces throwing thing can ruin a good drink. Hmmm… I know! Do what I do and con your friends into making it for you; tell them it’s a game or something. If you don’t have friends then I guess you’re on your own. Here it is:

The King Tut-tini:

1 bottle of Shiraz

2 oz Gin

2 oz Peach Schnapps

2 oz Orange Juice

1 T. cloves

1 cinnamon stick

1 star anise

1 cardamom

1 T. coca nibs

2 oz honey

A garnish of Gold leaf (can scrounge this from Goldschlager)

Mix all the ingredients together and allow them to infuse for at least 24 hours in the fridge. Then strain into martini glasses and add the Gold leaf garnish.

The recipe serves 6, but if you didn’t con your friends into making it for you then I guess you can have it all to yourself. Good luck with that, though. You’d have to be a raving lunatic or an extreme soberphobic to drink all of that. Oh, wait. Yea, I guess I would do that.

  1. what can i use in the place of coca nibs

  2. You could try chopped nuts. Nibs are basically unsweetened, roasted cocoa-beans. They are nutty and slightly bitter. Also they are usually used in substitution for nuts in some baking recipes. Though, I don’t know how it will effect the drink and being that it’s not really my recipe, can’t give you permission to alter it.
